Do you want to thrive or survive?
Fri, April 23, 2010 at 11:55 A unique product, a new technology or a great strategy can put you on the competitive map, but only effective and sustainable operations can keep you there. How do you ensure this? Here are two factors that matter most to successful execution:
- Clear responsibilities. Unclear decision rights are a common disease in many organisations, mainly caused by improvable leadership or complex structures. The symptoms are: repetitive or no decisions, endless discussions, slow strategy execution, and a culture of finger-pointing to others’ bad decisions.
- Transparency. Opaque business processes and missing measures of success cause wrong decisions. Typical reasons are: lacking trust within the management, unclear strategies, and sometimes missing tools to facilitate the flow of information. By cleaning up the processes and making them transparent, the productivity increases dramatically.
Despite the belief of many managers, these two elements are more important to solid execution than the organisational structure or motivators for employees.*
