Forget the “But”
Thu, January 20, 2011 at 10:00 We are all surrounded by Yes-But-Men.
- Mobile phone providers offer unlimited minutes, but … not between 7am and 6pm.
- Banks offer accounts for free, but … only if your minimum amount is more than ten thousand bucks.
- Consultants promise to help you, but … only as long as you pay them for long working hours.
The Yes-But-Men are driven by one force: risk avoidance, which is based on uncertainty and mistrust. Read more on this in our previous blog.
Let me ask you this: How much business do you lose by saying “but…”?
Probably it is much more than you think, but… you don’t realize it because you don’t count. Meanwhile other players with a less “buts” win more business.
Let me suggest you this: Get rid of your “but”.
- As a leader, give clear directions.
- As a service provider, offer real unlimited plans to your customers.
- As a consultant, offer unlimited access to your knowledge base and remote time (as New Pace has been doing from the beginning).
Don’t ask your accountants or lawyers for permission. You will never get it. As leader and entrepreneur, just do it.
