How complacent are you?
Fri, October 8, 2010 at 11:55 Through our blog, you have learnt a lot about strategies and why they fail to get implemented. Here is another - less visible and more dangerous - reason for failure: complacency.
When talking to our clients I like to ask this question: "How hungry are your people for change?" Most often I look into their "glassy" eyes and continue like this: "Well, you have just told me that you want to implement significant changes in your organisation. How sure are you that your people – and perhaps even yourself – are not too complacent to execute this strategy?"
It's the same issue as with the latest diet: People like the idea of losing weight but when called to action, the excuses prevail. Why? Mostly because your need for change is not strong enough. You are complacent with the current situation.
How to overcome complacency?
- Explore the level of complacency in your organisation.
- Create and communicate a sense of urgency to all employees.
- Create small successes quickly. Show that it can be easy to change.
By the way, complacency blocks innovation. And you want to be innovative, don't you?
