Start being excellent now!

You have the choice: You can just perform like others do and achieve your goals somehow, sometimes, or you can be excellent in all things that are important for your enterprise’s success, outperform the others, fulfill your mission, and make more profit.

Even though most leaders would agree that they want to achieve these goals for themselves and their organizations, only a few recognize that excellence is an essential condition to reaching their goals without competing through price.

For example, if you want to win and retain more customers, then show your customer focus in everything you do. Shorten response times, provide high quality responses, offer services and products with clear value. If you want to be more efficient, improve your processes in everything you do.

The important factor in becoming excellent is to start NOW.

Really excellent performers and organizations never wait for anything to improve. They just do it. Is that difficult? Yes. But there is one trick to get you going: Start with small but important steps.

Some ideas:

  • Make ALL meetings effective. You will save a tremendous amount of time and energy for you and your staff.
  • Get rid of all useless reports and presentations (there are a lot of them in every organization). "Useless" means that they are neither for direct decision support nor for training.
  • Make your strategy clear to yourself, your leadership colleagues, and the staff. "Clear" means that everybody can explain its key elements in one minute or less. Every day without a clear strategy is a lost day for achieving excellence.

You have no time for “these little things”? This is exactly why you should start to improve them immediately.
