The Truth About Leadership

How often do you ask yourself: "Am I a good leader?" Not very often? Then, either you are an outstanding leader with sky-high self-esteem, or you hesitate to ask because you fear a negative answer.

Before you rush now into the next book store or surf on the web for leadership tips, here is the most fundamental and yet often ignored truth about leadership:

As a leader, you must be ahead of the crowd.

Here are three tips for your daily leadership practice:

  • Lean forward, perhaps not physically but mentally. Like skiing – read more about this metaphor in our recent blog – you can only control a situation when your head is ahead of the rest.
  • Be followable. Create a vision that inspires others. Live by example, be others' role model.
  • Be authentic. This is the trick with all the literature about leadership. Don't just put a "leadership layer" on top of your personality. Instead, you as entire person must become a leader. Difficult? Yes. Possible? Yes.

By practicing these tips day by day you are ahead of 80% of people in leadership positions. Watch out – not everyone might like this.
